Albany vs. Drexel
March 21, 2004
The Game Story:
Yorktown Heights, N.Y.- Freshman attackman Frank Resetarits scored five goals, including three in the third quarter, as Albany rallied for a 9-8 non-league victory over Drexel on Sunday afternoon at Yorktown High School's Murphy Field.

Drexel (3-4) built a 6-4 halftime lead. Senior midfielder Joe Fiore scored a pair of first-quarter goals, before Greg Dougherty and Erik Haugen twice gave the Dragons a three goal advantage in the second stanza with unassisted tallies.

Albany (3-2) went ahead with four unanswered goals over the opening eight minutes of the second half. Freshman Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy), who had two goals and two assists, converted a diving shot off a scramble in front of the cage to tie the contest at six apiece. Resetarits put his team in front on a drive from the left side with 8:48 left in the third quarter. He then finished off a crossing pass from Thomson for an 8-6 lead.

The Great Danes, who are coming off an 11-10 upset of No. 17 Massachusetts last Tuesday, led 9-7 after three quarters after Michael Solazzo scored unassisted. But Drexel's Yoni Cohen cut the deficit in half when he fired a shot inside the left post with 13:06 remaining. Each team's defense took control the rest of the way. The Dragons' Ryan Harney made five of his 12 saves in the final period. Albany's Kevin Rae, who had 11 of his 18 saves in the second half, helped the Great Danes snuff out Drexel's extra-man opportunity in the final minute of play.

Sean Moloney, Jonathan Decanio and Cohen each had one goal and one assist. Luke Daquino had three assists for the Great Danes, who posted an 11-10 victory in last year's match-up between these teams.
