The Game Story:
Schenectady, N.Y. - Luke Daquino had three goals and four assists, as Albany won its season opener for the second straight year with a 16-5 victory over Manhattan on Saturday afternoon at Union College's Frank Bailey Field.

The Great Danes, who are coming off their first-ever NCAA appearance after winning last year's America East Conference title, leaped to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter. Daquino, a junior attackman, converted a bounce shot into empty net following a failed clear for a 2-0 lead. Freshman Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy) scored a pair of goals three minutes apart during the period, including a shot from the top of the crease in an extra-man situation.

Daquino, who tied a career-high with seven points in the contest, was involved in two of his team's three goals in the second quarter. He finished off a pass from Brendan Russell with 20 seconds elapsed in the stanza. Daquino then fed Michael Solazzo who blasted a shot into the top right corner for a 9-2 lead with 1:13 left before halftime.

Solazzo, who scored three times and added three assists, also found the net in his team's six-goal third quarter. Freshman attacker Frank Resetarits, who had two goals and one assist, and Chris Martocchia (2 goals) also found the net their team's uprising.

Nick Cacciatore had two goals and one assist for the Jaspers, who opened their schedule with a 10-9 overtime win over Sacred Heart last Wednesday. Albany goalkeeper Kevin Rae made 10 saves while playing the opening three quarters. The Great Danes will meet the nation's top-ranked team Johns Hopkins, a 14-5 winner over No. 5 Princeton on Saturday, in Baltimore, Md. on Tuesday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m.
