| Albany, N.Y. - Michael Solazzo tied a career-high with four goals and Luke
Daquino added two goals and five assists, as Albany won its third straight
with a 14-2 non-league victory over Siena on Tuesday afternoon in the Great
Danes' home regular-season finale at Varsity Field.
Albany (7-5) used a four-goal third quarter to break away after leading 4-2 at halftime. Daquino, who tied a career-high with seven points, had three assists in the period. He fed Solazzo in transition following a turnover, before finding Chris Martocchia on the left side after a failed clear. The Great Danes then scored twice in a 38-second span for an 8-2 lead. Senior midfielder Chris Driscoll picked up a ground ball and then sent a low shot past Siena goalkeeper John Bamford. Freshman Jim Stankard followed with a shot from the top of the crease with 4:20 left in the quarter. Daquino, who is seventh among the NCAA Division I leaders in assists at 2.43 per game, had a hand in each of his team's three goals over the opening three minutes of the final period. He hit an open net when defenseman Luke Smith disrupted a clearing attempt at midfield with 13:55 remaining. The sophomore attackman then set up Solazzo's fourth goal of the game, before giving the Great Danes an 11-2 cushion with a shot that went inside the left post. Tom Nally scored a pair of goals for Siena, who fell to 1-10 overall. Bamford, a freshman, finished with 17 saves. Albany's Driscoll finished with two goals and one assist, while Martocchia scored twice. Goalkeeper Kevin Rae made 10 saves in three-plus quarters between the pipes. |
