Army vs. Bucknell

The Game Story:
WEST POINT, N.Y. – No. 15 Bucknell scored twice in the fourth quarter and held off two late Army scoring opportunities to post a 6-5 victory, Saturday in Patriot League lacrosse action at Michie Stadium.

Army led 5-4 with 11:28 left to play but Austin Winter and Perry Menzies each scored to help Bucknell halt a five-game losing streak to the Black Knights.

No. 17 Army had three scoring opportunities in the final four minutes but could not get the game-tying goal and fell to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Bucknell, which out-shot Army 42-29, improved to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in conference competition.

Navy leads the Patriot League with a 5-0 record with Bucknell and Colgate tied for second with 3-1 records. Army is in fourth-place with a 3-2 mark. The top four teams in the league qualify for the Patriot League Tournament April 27 and 29 at the highest seed.

Army goalie Adam Fullerton made 16 saves while Bucknell’s Nick Sciubba made 10.

Brooks Korvin scored twice for the Black Knights while Ryan Chase had a goal and assist. Justin Bokmeyer and Alex Rhoads also scored while Mike Hanna had an assist.

Tim Brandau gave Bucknell an early leading, scoring off a Winter’s assist at the 11:20 mark. Korvin tied the game, off a Hanna assist, three minutes later.

Brandau scored the second of his three goals to make it 2-1 early in the second but Rhoads scored an assisted goal to knot the game at two.

Chase, who was honored along with fellow seniors Eddie Clark, Nick LoRusso, Brian Ivany, Hunter Wakeland and Jack Pinney before the game, put Army ahead for the first time with two minutes left in the first half. Chase was following down when he got his shot off and bounced it past Sciubba for a 3-2 advantage.

Bokmeyer put the Black Knights ahead 4-2 with three minutes remaining in the game. Bokmeyer took a pass from Chase, took one step and scored his 12th goal of the season.

Brandau scored his third and Winter his first goal with five seconds left to tie the game at four after three quarters.

Korvin put Army back ahead early in the fourth quarter with an unassisted tally, his 12th of the season.

Winter scored his second with 7:47 left to tie the game and Menzies scored with 5:09 left to put Bucknell back on top, 6-5.

Army had two possessions in the final two minutes but could not get the equalizer.

Army has four regular season games remaining and all are on the road, beginning Saturday at arch rival Navy. Navy is 9-2 overall following an 8-7 double overtime loss to Maryland. Game time is noon at Marine Corps Stadium. The Black Knights will also play at Duke (4/21), at Rutgers (5/2) and at Ohio State (5/6).

Game Notes: Seniors Ryan Chase, Eddie Clark, Nick LoRusso, Brian Ivany, Hunter Wakeland and Jack Pinney were all honored prior to the game by Athletic Director Kevin Anderson ... Army leads the series with Bucknell 23-5 ... Brooks Korvin had scored a goal in the past seven games ... members of the Army football team were on hand following their scrimmage and encouraged the lacrosse team from behind the Bucknell bench.
