Brown played four overtime periods for the fourth time in its 62-year men's lacrosse history.
The goalie play in overtime was spectacular, with Brown sophomore goalie Will Round making seven of his 17 saves in the extra sessions, including three in the first overtime and three in the third, including several at point blank range. Yale's goalie Jack Meyer was also up to the challenge in the extra sessions, making four of his eight saves in overtime.
The Bears' offense was led by sophomore attackman Sam Hurster, who registered a hat-trick with three goals, while also adding an assist. Senior midfielder Rob Schlesinger and senior attackman Parker Brown netted two goals each for Brown.
Yale attackman Matt Gibson led all scorers with five goals, while Conrad Oberbeck and Dempster netted two goals apiece.
Brown struggled in the early going with Yale building a 6-2 lead early in the second quarter, with Gibson scoring four times. The Bears awoke from their hibernation with consecutive goals by Hurster, Parker Brown and junior Johnny DePeters to trail 7-6 at the half.
Parker Brown's second goal of the game with 10:50 left in the third quarter tied the game, 7-7, but Yale's Shane Thornton gave the Bulldogs the lead again, 8-7, on a goal with 7:11 left in the quarter.
Back-to-back goals by Hurster and Schlesinger, with 2:33 remaining in the quarter, gave Brown its first lead, 9-8. Gibson netted his fifth goal for the Elis with 12 seconds left in the quarter, and the game was tied, 9-9.
Schlesinger answered with a spectacular goal on a shot from midfield with just two seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Bears the lead again, 10-9.
