Bucknell vs. Colgate
April 24, 2004
The Game Story:
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Chris Cara scored four goals and assisted on another as the Bucknell lacrosse team, faced with a must-win situation, held off Colgate 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at sun-splashed Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

The victory, coupled with Hobart's 14-8 win at Army on Saturday, gives Bucknell the No. 3 seed at the Patriot League Tournament, which begins April 30 in Annapolis, Md. Navy will be the top seed, followed by Hobart, Bucknell and Colgate. Army was eliminated from the postseason with its loss at home to the Statesmen. The Bison will face Hobart in one semifinal, while Navy will play Colgate.

Bucknell (6-7, 4-3) appeared to be in good shape in this one when John Salvesen finished a Patrick O'Hearn feed with 4:47 left in the second quarter for a 5-2 Bison lead.

But Bucknell would not score again for another 29 minutes. In the meantime, Colgate drew even on a fastbreak goal by Reid Diamond, then two straight scores by Robert Trasolini. The latter tied the game at 5-all with 10:40 to play.

Cara, the nation's leading scorer, ended the drought and snapped the tie with 5:39 to play, beating a defender with a one-on-one move to the left of crease. Cara had a hand in five of the team's six goals and now has 74 points on the season, five shy of the school and league records. He broke the Bucknell single-season assist mark when he notched his 38th of the year on Salvesen's first-quarter goal.

Bison goalie Matt Baran made eight saves, including two on Ramsey Brame in the final 1:09 of the game. Baran stopped Brame's high outside shot with 26 seconds left, and Bucknell was able to clear the ball the length of the field and exhaust the clock.
