Bucknell vs. Duke
February 13, 2010
The Game Story:
POWDER SPRINGS, Ga.-Duke junior Zach Howell scored on a fastbreak in overtime to lift the second-ranked Blue Devils to a 12-11 win over No. 19 Bucknell in the squads' men's lacrosse season opener this afternoon at McEachern High School. The 12-11 score marked the first time all afternoon Duke had led as the Blue Devils battled back to even the score twice to force overtime.

Senior attackman Max Quinzani led the Blue Devils with four goals to extend his scoring streak to 47 games, while senior Ned Crotty added a pair of goals.

The Bison raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Duke's offense started to get going in the second frame, scoring five goals. However, the Bucknell attack also continued to thrive as it matched the Blue Devils in point production to take an 8-5 lead into halftime

Needing to slow down the Bison offense, Duke did just that in holding Bucknell to just one goal in the third frame. Meanwhile, the Blue Devil attack was able to tally three markers to pull within one at 9-8 game heading into the final 15 minutes.

The fourth quarter was a tight affair as both teams were looking for that offensive push to break open the game. Duke tied the game at nine apiece before the Bison went back in front and forced the Blue Devils to tie the score at 11 in the closing minute. Bucknell had possession of the ball with eight seconds left in regulation, but the Blue Devil defense was able to hold the Bison off and force the overtime finish.

Complete statistics from the game were not available at the time of release.

Duke hosts No. 9 Notre Dame in its home opener on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
