Colgate vs. Sacred Heart

The Game Story:
HAMILTON, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Reid Diamond (Boston, Mass.) found the back of the net less than two minutes into overtime to lift the Colgate menís lacrosse team to an 8-7 win against Sacred Heart on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Tylerís Field. The Raiders are now 2-0 for the first time first time since the 1993 squad defeated Mount St. Maryís and Stony Brook to start its campaign.

Peter Greco opened the gamesí scoring with 8:11 left in the first quarter with a goal off a feed from Kiel Adams. Christian Lynch made it 2-0 in favor of the visitors after Adams found him with less than six minutes to play in the opening session. Colgate got on the board a minute later when sophomore Brendan Hurley (West Islip, N.Y.) slipped a shot past Pioneer goalie Thomas Hind. Junior Brian Robinson (Denver, Colo.) tied the game at 2-2 with a tally at the one-minute mark, off a feed from classmate Robert Trasolini (New Hyde Park, N.Y.).

Sacred Heart scored three unanswered goals in the second, and added another at the beginning of the third to take a 6-2 advantage. Adams scored two goals for the Pioneers, including the second of back-to-back man-up tallies less than one minute in to the second half. SHU finished the game 2-for-2 with a one-man advantage.

Trasolini scored three straight goals to pull Colgate back to within one, 6-5, less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. His first score came at the 11:30 mark of the third period, and then he scored on consecutive man-up opportunities less than a minute apart early in the fourth. Sacred Heartís Matthew Robideau scored with 8:32 to play to give the Pioneers an 8-6 edge, but freshman Matt Lalli (Princeton Junction, N.J.) found sophomore Rob Ryan (Manhasset, N.Y.) twice in the final five minutes to force overtime.

Colgate junior goalie Andrew Jarolimek (Silverthorne, Colo.) made nine saves, including one in overtime, while Hind finished with 11 stops. Each team won nine of 18 face-offs, and Colgate held a 21-20 edge in ground balls.

The Raiders play at Vermont on Saturday, March 5, at 1:00 p.m.
