Colgate vs. Villanova

The Game Story:
HAMILTON, NY – Matt Lalli (Princeton Junction, N.J) started his career at Colgate with three goals and one assist bringing Colgate to 1-0 beating Villanova 8-6 Saturday afternoon at Tyler’s Field.

Colgate opened up the game scoring first with 13:20 in the first quarter with an unassisted goal by Brendan Hurley (West Islip, N.Y). Mark Nemith (Albany, N.Y.) followed quickly behind with another goal for Colgate with 11:29 in the first to put Colgate up two. Villanova scored three goals during the first to put them up one with three quarters to play. Matt Starker had two goals and Dan Fanelli tallied one.

Colgate tied it up again in the second quarter with another unassisted goal by Brendan Hurley. Brendan O’Donnell for Villanova responded by finding Marc Creegan to put them back in the lead. Another Villanova goal by Matt Starker from Dan Fanelli not shortly after put the Wildcats up two with 5:54 in the second. Colgate’s Lalli scored his first goal of the game with 5:02 left in the second to bring Colgate down one.

Colgate kept Villanova scoreless in the third while scoring two goals of their own to gain the lead again. Robert Trasolini (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) found Jeff Hiler (Wantagh, N.Y.) on a man up to tie the game with 13:43. Lalli received a pass from Rob Ryan (Manhasset, N.Y.) and scored his second goal of the contest to put Colgate up one with 1:23 left in the third.

Villanova tied the game in the beginning of the fourth when Matt Starker scored his fourth goal of the game with an assist from Matt Panneton with 14:05 left in the game. Lalli came back to score his third goal of the game unassisted to bring Colgate up one with 10:23 in the game. Colgate sealed the game by a goal Rob Ryan with an assist from Lalli with 2:13 to put the Raiders up two.

Villanova goalie Joe Canuso have 4 saves on 20 Colgate shots while Colgate goalie Andew Jarolimek (Silverthorne, CO.) had 11 saves on 33 attempts by Villanova to bring Colgate the win.
