April 10, 2007
The Game Story:
HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/10/2007)óJunior Matt Lalli (Princeton Junction, N.J.) and sophomore Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) combined for seven goals and three assists to lead Colgate University to a 12-6 win over Binghamton in menís lacrosse action this evening on Tylerís Field. Lalli had a game-high four goals and an assist, while Corp contributed three goals and two helpers.

The Raiders remain unbeaten on Tylerís Field this season and improve to 7-4 overall for the year. The Bearcats drop to 3-6 overall.

Sophomore Kevin Colleluori (Bethpage, N.Y.) also had a hat trick for the Raiders, while six other players had at least one point. Matt McNamara led all Binghamton scorers with two goals.

The two squads traded goals throughout the first quarter with Colgate notching the final score with 2:25 for a 3-2 lead at the first break. Colleluori opened the scoring at the 11:56 mark before Binghamtonís McNamara answered 17 seconds later off an assist from Jeff Kaylor.

With the game tied at two with less than three minutes to play, Corp found a streaking Andy Summersgill (Moorestown, N.J.) who put it into the top corner of the net to give Colgate the one-goal advantage after the first frame.

The Raiders dominated the second quarter by scoring four unanswered. Corp got things started at the 8:02 mark with a perfectly placed underhand shot past Binghamton goalie Larry Kline. Senior Brendan Hurley (West Islip, N.Y.) added a man-up score just over a minute later to make it a 5-2 Colgate lead. Corp and Lalli both added a goal apiece to increase the margin to five goals. Binghamtonís Andy Cook cut the lead back to four, 7-3, at the half after stopping the Raidersí five-goal run with an unassisted score with one tick on the clock.

The Colgate defense continued to stifle Binghamtonís attack in the third quarter as the Raiders added two more goals to go in front 9-3 with two minutes remaining in the frame. With less than a minute remaining, Jeff Rurey took advantage of a Colgate penalty to pull the Bearcats within five going into the fourth quarter.

Binghamton started fast in the final frame, needing just 53 seconds to cut the lead to four at 9-5. Colleluori responded just over a minute later to push the Raider lead back to five at 10-5. The Bearcats were able to find the back of the net again to make it 10-6, but that is all Colgate would allow. Lalli closed out the game with two goals, including a score off of a length-of-the-field pass from senior defenseman Colin Hulme (Framingham, Mass.). Hulme also collected a game-high seven groundballs for the Raiders.

Binghamton held a 33-24 advantage on shots, while the groundballs were even at 27. The Bearcats won 12-of-21 faceoffs, but were just 9-of-15 on clears.

In goal, sophomore Brian Cain (Rocky Point, N.Y.) made a career-high 11 saves to earn his third win of the season. Kline made three stops in the loss.

Colgate resumes Patriot League play on April 14, traveling to Lafayette. That game is set to face off at 1 p.m.
