The Game Story:
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Junior Rob Pannell had two goals and four assists and Cornell won its 2011 season opener against longtime rival Hobart with a 14-9 victory over the Statesmen on Saturday afternoon on Schoellkopf Field. The Big Red moves to 1-0, while Hobart slipped to 1-1 on the young season.

Despite a dominant 18-of-24 day for Hobart at the face-off "x", including winning 12-of-13 in the second half, the Big Red was able to control the contest with a strong day from Pannell and 11 saves from goalkeeper A.J. Fiore. Jason Noble had an outstanding day in front of Fiore, causing five turnovers and winning a team-high five ground balls. The home team was able to score of 3-of-7 extra-man opportunities. Both Roy Lang (two goals, assist) and Mitch McMichael (goal, two assists) had three-point days for the home team.

Alex Love led Hobart with a goal and an assist in the loss, while Evan Kirk made 10 saves. Bobby Dattilo won 17-of-23 face-offs and scooped up 13 ground balls.
