Denver vs. Pennsylvania

The Game Story:
DENVER - Senior midfielder Scott Davidson (Guilford, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal with about three minutes remaining in the game to propel the University of Denver men's lacrosse team over Penn this morning at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The Pioneers improve to 2-2, while Penn drops to 1-2.

"I am proud at the way our guys hung in there and got the win today," said head coach Jamie Munro. "Penn is a good team and played great defense throughout the game. I am happy to get the win at home and we will be ready for Villanova next weekend."

Senior attackman Matt Brown (Burnaby, B.C.) scored the first goal for Denver with 4:23 remaining in the first period from a feed from senior midfielder Darren Sasaki-Scanlon (Norwalk, Conn.) to lead 1-0. However, the Quakers came back with three unanswered goals in the second period, two from James Riordan and one from Luke Wilson, to leave the Pioneers trailing 3-1 entering the third period.

Early in the third period, Denver pulled ahead. 4-3, with unassisted goals from Sasaki-Scanlon, junior attackman Greg Weigel (Port Republic, Md.) and freshman midfielder Michael Goltra (Washington, N.C.). Then Penn came back with two of its own from Zandy Reich and David Cornbrooks to give the Quakers a 5-4 lead with 10:29 remaining in the third period. Senior attackman Greer Hanlon (Libertyville, Ill.) tied it up for Denver with 1:11 left and junior midfielder Geoff Snider (Calgary, Alberta) added a goal with 36 seconds remaining in the period to give the Pioneers a 6-5 lead.

Penn's DJ Andrzejewski scored an unassisted goal to tie it up at six goals apiece at the beginning of the fourth period but Davidson's unassisted goal with 3:05 remaining was all the Pioneers needed to pull ahead 7-6 and earn their second win of the season.

The Pioneers will return to action Saturday, March 19 at 1:30 p.m. when the face-off against Villanova at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
