April 19, 2008
The Game Story:
Philadelphia, Pa. - Drexel's offense exploded for nine straight goals to start the game and the 14th-ranked Dragons defeated Sacred Heart, 15-4, on Senior Day at Vidas Field. The win gave the Dragons their 11th win of the year and clinched a spot in the CAA Tournament. Drexel can clinch a share of the CAA regular season title and home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win next Saturday at Villanova.

Andrew Chapman scored three of his game-high five goals in the first quarter as Drexel (11-3, 4-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead. He now has 36 goals on the season. The Dragons outshot the Pioneers, 21-3, in the first 15 minutes. Drexel had a nine goal lead before Sacred Heart (6-5, 1-4) finally got on the board with 10:45 left in the third quarter. The Dragons' lead swelled to ten goals when Adam Dennis scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the third quarter. His third goal of the game with nine seconds to play in the third made it 12-2.

Drexel's starting units got most of the fourth quarter off. Bruce Bickford left the cage with nine minutes reamining in the game. He had 12 saves before being replaced by Andy Blahut and allowed just two goals. Bickford, who entered the game third in the nation in save percentage, raised that figure to .640 and had his goals against average drop to 6.94. Jon Van Houten added a pair of goals, while Scott Perri had two assists in the Dragons' win.

Stephen Gerhard led the Pioneers with a goal and an assist. Ricardo Vargas played just over 50 minutes in goal and had 22 saves, including eight in the first period and 13 in the half.

It was the final home game for eight Drexel seniors. Bickford, Chapman, Steve Grossi, Peter King, Mike McTernan, Brian McWilliams, L.C. Moerschel and Chris O'Connor helped lead the Dragons to back-to-back 11 win seasons for the first time in school history and will have a chance next week to lead the team to a share of the CAA regular season title for the second-straight year.
