Drexel vs. Binghamton

The Game Story:
Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior captain Patrick Friel (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) recorded a game-high four assists to lead the Drexel Dragons over the Binghamton Bearcats 10-6 on Saturday, April 5. With the second straight victory, Drexel improves to 3-6 on the season, while Binghamton falls to 2-5.

Jesse Rumble (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) began the scoring for Drexel with his first of two goals just thirty seconds into the match. An unassisted goal by Sean Moloney (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) would Drexel up 2-0 at 10:55. Binghamton would not stay quiet for long, notching two straight tallies to make the score two all at the end of the first quarter. Freshman Phil Cavallo got Binghamton on the board with an extra man goal with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. One minute later Charlie Cook and Brian Morgan teamed to score BU?s second goal.

The second quarter was all Drexel, as the Dragons scored four goals to Binghamton?s one. Jarett Mizzi (Floral Park, Pa./Floral Park) opened up the scoring for Drexel at 6:39, off a pass from Friel, but Binghamton?s Cavallo answered with a goal just 20 seconds later to make the score tied at three. Rumble put the Dragons up by one with a goal at 5:14 and Mizzi, assisted by Matt Musci (Garden City Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park), notched his second goal at 2:31, making the score 5-3. Sean Metz (Port Jefferson, N.Y./The Stony Brook School) would score an insurance goal at 1:52, unassisted, to make the score 6-3 going into the half.

Drexel?s Justin Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) won all three face-offs in the third quarter to help DU notch one more goal. Musci, off a feed from Friel, netted his eighth goal of the season just 40 seconds into the half. BU?s Cavallo scored a goal with 22 seconds remaining to ruin a Drexel third quarter scoring shutout.

Mizzi and Friel teamed to score an extra man goal to open up the fourth stanza at 11:28. The Bearcats attempted to make a comeback with back-to-back goals by Aaron LaFlair and John Gaudet at 9:02 and 8:32, respectively, but a goal by freshman Matt Bancroft (Oakton, Va./James Madison) at 6:31 squashed all attempts. Drexel?s final goal came at 4:11, when senior Tom Naples (Camillus, N.Y./Marcellus) scooped up a groundball and ran down the field to pass off to Musci, who fired in a shot to make the final score 10-6.

Drexel goalie Ryan Harney (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) tallied 11 saves in his first start, while BU goalie Kevin McKeown earned 15 saves.

The Dragons are off until next Saturday, when the travel to Sacred Heart for a 1 p.m. game.
