March 12, 2005
The Game Story:
Philadelphia, Pa. - Eight different Dragons had at least a goal as Drexel defeated St. John's, 11-5, in a non-conference game at Franklin Field. Drexel scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed in the contest. The Dragons (5-1) won for the fifth-straight time, the team's longest win streak since 1998.

The Dragons had the only two goals of the first period as Brian Neary and Jesse Rumble each scored. Neary's goal was an extra-man goal. Yoni Cohen found the net at the 9:31 mark of the second quarter to put the Dragons up by three. The Red Storm (1-3) got on the board for the first time when Robert Gannon scored at 6:31. Cohen added another and Greg Dougherty completed the scoring in the first half with just 30 seconds left to increase the lead to 5-1 at intermission.

St. John's cut the lead to three goals on three occasions in the second half, but each time they scored the Dragons answered with a goal of their own. Drexel led 7-4, but St. John's had a good scoring opportunity come up empty with a turnover, and the Dragons converted. Steve Grossi finished off the fast break with his first career goal to put Drexel up by four. Lee Schaknowski and Jeff Pfeffer followed with quick goals as the Dragons took a 10-4 lead.

Schaknowski and Chris O'Connor each had a pair of goals and an assist for Drexel. Pfeffer also finished with four points. Justin O'Donnell scored twice for the Red Storm.

Bruce Bickford made his first career start and came up with seven saves for Drexel. Matthew Duca had 11 saves in the cage for St. John's. The Dragons outshot the Red Storm, 41-21 and had nine more ground balls. St. John's won 11 of the 19 draws, led by Devin Madden, who won nine.

Drexel returns to action on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons face Albany at Mahopac High School in Mahopac. N.Y. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
