|FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men^Òs lacrosse team suffered its
first loss of the season, falling to Brown University, 12-7 on Saturday
afternoon in a non-conference match-up on Alumni Field. With the loss the Stags
fall to 3-1 while the Bears improve to 3-0 on the season.
Brown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off goals by Chazz Woodson and Dave Madeira before senior Tom Werney (Granite Springs, N.Y.) got the Stags on the board with a man-down goal with 6:36 remaining in the first period. Fifteen-seconds later, Bear Richard Tuohey made the score 3-1 and Woodson gave Brown its largest lead of the first-half, 4-1, seven seconds into the second period.
Fairfield got two unanswered goals as senior Matt Baglio (Brightwaters, N.Y.) connected off a pass from freshman Mike Bocklet (Katonah, N.Y.) with 9:10 until halftime and then Bocklet added a tally with the assist credited to senior Troy Bamann (Victor, N.Y.), to make the score 4-3 at the intermission.
The teams traded goals in the third period as Woodson extended the Brown lead to 5-3 before Baglio made it 5-4 with 3:14 left in the third. Freshman Greg Downing (Auburn, N.Y.) tied the game at five apiece off a pass from Baglio, just over two minutes later, but it was short-lived as Alex Buckley scored three unanswered goals to give the Bears an 8-5 advantage with just over 12 minutes to play.
Brown outscored the Stags 4-2 down the stretch with Fairfield^Òs unassisted goals credited to senior Rory McCarthy (Camillus, N.Y.) and Baglio.
