The Game Story:
The Fairfield men's lacrosse team earned an ECAC Lacrosse League win over visiting Hobart College, 15-9 this afternoon, on Alumni Field. The Stags improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, with the win, while the Statesmen fall to 4-4 on the year and 0-3 in league action.

The Stags used a 5-0 run over the final 6:31 of the first quarter into the first 2:11 of the second to take control of the game. Chris Manley opened the scoring from a Josh Thornton pass at 12:21, a goal that was answered at the 7:05 mark by David O'Quinn. Mike Bocklet started the run with his first tally at 6:31, followed 106 seconds later by a Dan Boudreau unassisted goal, for a 3-1 edge. Brendan Finnerty gave Fairfield the 4-1 advantage after the first quarter, with an unassisted goal with 3:55 in the period.

Bocklet scored twice to start the second quarter, the first at 14:05, a man-up goal from a Travis Nelson pass. The second was an even strength goal at 12:49, off of a Manley feed.

Hobart's Nick Currie rallied the Statesmen with two unassisted, extra man goals at 10:50 and 9:15, to cut the deficit to 6-3, but Brian Stanton took a Bocklet pass and put it in the cage, for the 7-3 edge. Hobart charged again getting goals at 6:15 and 3:24 of the second quarter, but again Bocklet helped quell the Statesmen, scoring off of a Brian Gorman pass with 3:15 left in the first half, and giving the Stags an 8-5 halftime edge.

The Stags got two early second half goals, from Bocklet at 11:40 and Nelson at 7:20, to pus the lead to 10-5. Currie scored his third goal for Hobart at 4:32, which Brian Stanton answered with 96 seconds to play in the third, giving the Stags an 11-6 lead.

The fourth quarter started with an early goal by Hobart, but Casey Martin (11:48) and Boudreau (10:27) responded to put the lead to 13-7. Mike Conklin (10:01) and Christopher David (9:42) scored consecutive goals for the Statesmen to cut the lead to 13-9. Boudreau answered at 6:46, and Josh Thornton wrapped up the scoring with a 45-yard score from the sideline with 2:19 to play.

Bocklet had one of the best single-game efforts in program history with his eight total points. He scored five goals, third best single-game effort, as well as dishing out three assists. Thornton finished with three points, as did Nelson, both of who had a goal and an assist. Boudreau tallied three goals, while Stanton netted a pair.

Stag goalie Mike Kruger was strong in net for the Stags playing the entire 60:00 to earn the win. He made 15 saves in the game, including six in the first quarter and four in the final stanza to turn away the Statesmen. Mike DeSantis made five saves, allowing 15 goals, for Hobart.

Hobart received a three-goal, one-assist effort from Currie. David and Conklin both had two points in the contest, a goal and an assist from David and two goals from Conklin.
