The Game Story:
Washington, D.C. - Freshman Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) scored three goals and had two assists and junior Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) added three goals as No. 4 Georgetown beat Penn State, 9-4, in front of 1,618 fans at the Multi-Sport Field Saturday afternoon.

Georgetown closes out the 2007 regular season with an 11-2 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the ECAC. The Hoyas now await the NCAA Tournament selections, which will be made on Sunday night. The selections will air live on ESPNews at around 9:15 p.m.

Prior to face-off on Saturday, Georgetown Head Coach Dave Urick and the Hoya lacrosse program honored 10 seniors who were playing their final regular season game on the Hilltop.

The game was tied at 2-all after the first quarter and goals from Dowd and Cannon early in the second quarter broke the tie and gave the Hoyas a 4-2 lead. As time ran down before the half, however, senior Trevor Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) fired a shot past Penn State's Drew Adams, giving the Blue and Gray a 5-2 lead with 21 seconds left.

The teams traded goals in the third quarter and a score from Penn State's Chris Hogan in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter (12:59) pulled the Nittany Lions to within two goals at 6-4. Less than a minute after the Penn State score, Georgetown responded. Junior Andrew Baird (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) took a feed from sophomore defender Clayton Hall (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and rifled a shot past Adams, pushing the Hoya margin back to three goals, 7-4, with 11:39 to play.

Georgetown maintained possession through much of the fourth quarter and pushed the lead to 8-4 when senior middie Chase Gahan (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) fed Dowd for his third goal of the game with 3:59 to play. Dowd then returned the favor to Cannon, assisting on the game's final goal with 2:35 to play.

Junior goalie Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss) was outstanding in the pipes for the Hoyas, making 13 saves and recording six ground balls.

Other seniors recognized during pre-game ceremonies included midfielder, and tri-captain, Dave Bauer (Red Bank, N.J./The Peddie School), midfielder, and tri-captain, Garrett Wilson (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy), defender Preston Connell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), midfielder Chase Gahan (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield), defender Matt Heiderman (Ocean City, Md./Worchester Prep), defender Jerry Lambe (N. Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale), midfielder Danny Nolan (Manhasset, N.Y./St. Mary's), midfielder Ryan Still (Oreland, Pa./Penn Charter School) and midfielder Christiaan Trunz (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade).

This Hoya senior class has a 44-14 overall record after Saturday's game, including a 19- 3 mark against ECAC opponents. Georgetown has reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four years, extending its streak of postseason appearances to 11-straight years. During that span, the Hoyas have reached the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals three times and won three ECAC Championships.
