| West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford lacrosse team dropped its first league game of
the season on Saturday afternoon, 9-4, to Albany. Hartford falls to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the
America East and will be the second seed in next week's America East conference tournament.
Albany (8-6, 5-0) wins the regular season conference title and will be the #1 seed in the
tournament. Both teams will host semifinals games on Wednesday, May 1.
After both teams scored a pair of goals in the opening period, the Great Danes broke it open in the second period scoring four unanswered goals and taking a 6-2 halftime lead. Chris Driscoll scored two of the goals for the Great Danes during the second period. Brendan Russell gave Albany a five-goal lead at 7-2 with a goal early in the third period. Hartford's Jamell Vanterpool responded 37 seconds later to cut the lead to 7-3 and end Hartford's scoring drought which lasted over 20 minutes. Tyler Francey would cut the lead to three at 7-4 with 6:52 left in the period, but Albany's Russell and Luke Daquino responded with two goals in the next 1:28 to give Albany the 9-4 lead. The #2 seed Hartford will be in action again on Wednesday night, May 1 at 7 p.m. at home as they host the semifinals of the America East Tournament vs. #3 seed Stony Brook. Hartford won the regular season meeting between the two teams, 9-8, on March 12 at Stony Brook. |
