Hartford vs. Hobart

The Game Story:
WEST HARTFORD, CT - The University of Hartford menís lacrosse team dropped a 17-5 decision to Hobart College on Saturday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field.

Jeff Colburn led Hobart with four goals while Daryl Veltman added three and Kevin Curtin and Mike Lazore each scored two. Veltman also had an assist while Jamie Kirk finished with two goals and an assist. Sophomore Daniel Clough led Hartford with two goals while junior Steve Roop added a goal and an assist.

The Statesmen (2-2 overall) never trailed in the game and put five goals up on the board before the Hawks (1-3 overall) answered with a goal from Roop only 25 seconds into the second quarter. Hobart then scored five of the next six goals to take a commanding 10-2 lead into the halftime intermission.

Clough, freshman Bryan Hale and junior Brian Tilley each netted goals in the second half for the Hawks. Haleís score was the first of his collegiate career.

Hobart outshot Hartford in every period and held a 48-28 edge in the category for the game. The Statesmen also held a 52-39 advantage in ground balls and went 1-for-1 on extra-man opportunities.

Sophomore Jon McMahon got the starting nod in goal for the Hawks and made 12 saves over three quarters. Freshman Pat Healey and junior John Link split time in the fourth quarter. Healey gave up two goals and made two saves in 10:57 while Link yielded one goal in 4:03. Brandon Baer picked up the win in goal for the Statesmen. He allowed only two goals and made nine saves in 30 minutes of work.

Hartford will next play at 17th-ranked University of Denver on Tuesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m.
