Harvard vs. Fairfield
March 16, 2002
The Game Story:
CAMBRIDGE, MA-Junior Jay Wich (Hunt Valley, MD) and freshman Mike McBride (Ridgewood, NJ) scored two goals each to lead the Harvard men's lacrosse team over Fairfield, 10-8, on Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field. With the win, Harvard (4-0) stays undefeated on the season, while the Stags fall to 2-2.

Fairfield took a 2-0 lead to start the game, as Stags' sophomore Tom Werney (Somers, NY) netted a pair of goals in the first six minutes of the opening quarter. But Harvard rallied for five consecutive goals to take a 5-2 lead at the half. Junior attackman Matt Primm sparked the rally, assisting on a McBride goal for Harvard's first score and then notching an unassisted tally to give Harvard a 3-2 lead 3-2. The Crimson would never trail after that.

The third period saw a flurry of scoring by both sides, but Harvard never allowed the Stags to pull closer than two goals thanks to Wich's pair and one score each by Joe Nejman (Meadowbrook, PA) and Jeff Gottschall (Swampsott, MA). Fairfield's Matt Bueker (Street, MD) netted three third-quarter goals and added another in the fourth, but McBride's second tally of the day at the 8:21 mark of the third quarter proved to be the game-winner for the Crimson.

Harvard sophomore goalie Jake McKenna finished the afternoon with 11 saves, while Fairfield's C.J. Kemp had 14. Harvard returns to action next Wednesday, when the Crimson will travel to Worcester, MA to face Holy Cross.
