Harvard vs. Providence

The Game Story:
The Harvard men's lacrosse team cruised to an 8-3 victory over Providence College on Tuesday evening at Jordan Field. The Crimson jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first quarter and had six different goal scorers as it evened its record to 3-3 (0-1 Ivy) on the season. The Friars fall to 1-3.

Senior Matt Primm (Westminster, MD) got the Crimson on the board at the 13:59 mark of the first quarter and junior Jeff Gotschall (Swampscott, MA) followed with the second tally of the night a minute and a half later. Freshman Sean Kane (Fairfax, VA) closed out the first quarter by finding the back of the net with 28 seconds remaining.

Providence sophomore Dan Giuntini got the Friars' scoring started at the 9:12 mark of the second quarter when he slipped a shot past Crimson junior goalkeeper Jake McKenna (Darien, CT). Two minutes later senior Doug Logigian (Huntington, NY) once again extended the Harvard lead to three with a tally at 7:02.

The third quarter saw the Crimson score three goals in less than three minutes as sophomore Mike McBride (Ridgewood, NJ), Primm, and junior Anders Johnson (Brookside, NJ) all found the back of the net in succession.

Providence started to find its offensive rhythm towards the end of the third quarter when sophomore Sean Kirwan scored and then a minute later senior Jon Meehan added the Friars third goal of the game.

The Crimson kept Providence off the scoreboard for the rest of the game, and capped off the night with a Johnson goal at 9:26 of the fourth quarter.

McKenna played the entire game in the cage for the Crimson, giving up three goals and making nine saves. Sophomore Andrew McMinn played the first 35:31 in goal for Providence, allowing seven goals and stopping nine Harvard shots. Freshman Ron Westgate played the other 24:29. He made two saves and let one goal get by him.

The Crimson will be in action again on Saturday, March 29 when it travels to Durham, NC to take on Duke. Game time is 1 p.m.
