| SERIES SNAPSHOT—Today’s game marks the second meeting between the Statesmen and the Knights and Bellarmine’s first trip to Geneva. The Knights won last year’s inaugural contest 10-5 in Louisville, Ky. ABOUT LAST YEAR—On April 17, 2010, Bellarmine scored the first seven goals of the game and withstood a five-goal charge by the Statesmen to post a 10-5 victory. Five Knights recorded two goals apiece, while Derek Hopcroft, Shane Andersen, and Alex Porter each tallied a team-high three points. BOBBY DATTILO won 12 of 19 faceoffs, while scooping up a game-high seven ground balls. SAM MILLER paced the offense with a pair goals. CHRIS PEDERSEN was the only other Statesmen to record multiple points (1g, 1a). SENIOR NIGHT—Seniors TIM BIGELOW, ALEX CATON, EVAN KIRK, DANNY MULLIN, MIKE O’BRIEN, PAUL REINTJES, and MIKE WHITE will be playing their final home game in a Statesmen uniform tonight. They will be honored in a special pregame ceremony. YOUR BUCK GOES HERE—During the first half of tonight’s game, Hobart student-athletes will be going through the stands soliciting donations for Rotary Camp Onseyawa. The annual “Your Buck Goes Here” fundraiser supports Camp Onseyawa’s mission of providing camping experiences to children (ages 8-16) with disabilities from Ontario, Seneca, Yates, and Wayne counties. TEAM OF DISTINCTION—At halftime of tonight’s game, the Statesmen Athletic Association will recognize the 1981 Hobart Lacrosse team as a Hobart Team of Distinction. The 1981 squad began the season with a 20-13 rout of Brown on its way to a 12-3 regular season record. In the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Statesmen dispatched FDU-Madison 27-4 in the first round and followed that up with a 23-6 beating of Washington (Md.) setting up a rematch of the 1980 title tilt with Cortland. Hobart won the game 10-8 to win the program’s fifth national championship and second in a row. The team boasted six All-Americans that season, MARK DARCANGELO ’82, LARRY GRIMALDI, JEFF KNAUS ’81, KEVIN MARTIN ’82, BILL SIPPERLY ’81, and GUY VAN ARSDALE ’83. Additionally, Sipperly was tabbed the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. COMMON GROUND—The Statesmen and the Knights have two common opponents: Robert Morris and Fairfield. Hobart defeated both the Colonials, 9-8, and the Stags, 8-7, coming from behind on both occasions. Bellarmine suffered an 18-10 defeat at the hands of Robert Morris and a 13-11 loss to Fairfield. STREAKING—Junior attackman SAM MILLER enters today’s game with at least one point in 20 consecutive games, the longest active streak by a Statesman. Since he scored a pair of goals against Quinnipiac on March 20, 2010, Miller has produced 38 goals (including seven hat tricks) and six assists during the streak. His streak is tied for 27th in Division I. At 46 games, Siena’s Bryan Neufeld has the nation’s longest point scoring streak. X FACTOR—Junior BOBBY DATTILO has taken 205 faceoffs for the Statesmen this year, winning 131. His streak of 225 straight faceoffs taken was ended last week against Ohio State when Jake Silberlicht took a faceoff and won. Hobart leads the ECAC and ranks third in the nation in winning percentage (.643). Dattilo is seventh in the nation in faceoff winning percentage (.639) and sixth in ground balls. He’s scooped up 68 ground balls for an average of 6.8. RECORD WATCH—With four games remaining, BOBBY DATTILO is quickly scaling the Hobart season faceoff records lists. His 131 wins are seventh among Division I Statesmen. JOHN SODEN holds the current season record with 186 wins |
