Hempstead, NY - The seventh-ranked Hofstra Pride return to the friendly confines of James M. Shuart Stadium this Saturday, February 26 when they host the eighth-ranked Tigers of Princeton University at 11:30 a.m. The game is presented by W.B. Mason.

Hofstra, ranked seventh in the USILA Division I Coaches Poll and eighth in the Nike-Inside Lacrosse Media Poll this week, come into the contest with a 2-0 mark on the season following a season opening 6-3 victory against Colgate at home on February 15, and a 10-6 victory at Sacred Heart last Saturday. The Pride enter the Princeton game riding a four-game regular season winning streak. Hofstra has won eight consecutive home games at James M. Shuart Stadium and is 38-7 in their last 45 home games.

The Pride, who had nine players score goals in the two games, is led in scoring by graduate-student midfielder Steve Serling . The CAA Player of the Week has tallied three goals and five assists in the two contests including three goals and four assists at Sacred Heart. Senior Steve Bentz notched three goals and one assist at Sacred Heart and added a goal in the season opener. Fellow senior attackmen Jay Card and Jamie Lincoln each have two goals this season. Junior Andrew Gvozden has been solid in the cage allowing just nine goals and making 15 saves (.625 save %) in 120 minutes of work.

The Princeton Tigers, who open the 2011 season on Saturday, return six starters from a team that went 11-5 a year ago, finished in a tie for the Ivy League championship and then won the league's first tournament. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA tournament as the No. 6 seed and lost 8-5 in the first round to Notre Dame, which reached the championship game and lost in overtime to eventual national champions, Duke. Princeton's returning starters are Chris McBride (16-8-24) and Jack McBride (35-16-51) on attack; Jeff Froccaro (15-7-22) at midfield; Long Ellis (0-0-0, 26 GBs, 22 caused turnovers) and Chad Wiedmaier (0-0-0, 12 GBs, 12 caused turnovers) on defense; and Tyler Fiorito (8.58 GAA, .569 save %) in the cage. The Tigers have four players who were preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse. Defenseman Chad Wiedmaier was a first-team selection, while goalie Tyler Fiorito and attackman Jack McBride were second-team picks. Longstick midfielder John Cunningham was a third-team selection.

Saturday's game is the 24th men's lacrosse meeting between Hofstra and Princeton in a series that started in 1972. The Pride lead the series, 12-11. The two teams last met in the 2010 season opener at Princeton with the Tigers winning, 17-14. In that game, Hofstra attackman Jamie Lincoln recorded four goals and one assist in his Pride debut and midfielder Michael DeNapoli, who is currently out with an injury, added three goals and one assist but the Tigers outscored the Pride, 8-4 over the last 23 minutes to post a 17-14 victory at the Class of 1952 Stadium. The last time the two teams played on Long Island was March 14, 2009 at Shuart Stadium with the Pride defeating Princeton, 9-7.
