Holy Cross vs. Vermont

The Game Story:
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross scored the final four goals of the game to earn a 9-8 victory over the Vermont men's lacrosse team in non-conference action on Tuesday night. The Crusaders trailed 8-5 before netting four straight over the final 9:47 of play, as the Catamounts fall to 0-6 with the loss. Junior Drew Philie paced Vermont with four goals scored, while senior Geoff Worley added a goal and three assists.

Vermont jumped out to a 6-1 lead, as three of its first six goals came with a man-up advantage. The Catamounts struck first when junior A.J. Masson scored 1:36 into the contest and classmate Thomas Galvin made it 2-0 with 3:58 left in the first quarter. Holy Cross would cut it to 2-1, but UVM tallied the next four straight, including three by Philie. Two of Philie's three goals during the run were man-up, while sophomore Connor McNamara also added his 10th of the season and Worley earned assists on goals three, four and five.

The Crusaders (4-3) netted the next three to cut it to 6-4 with 5:33 to go in the third quarter. Worley made it a three-goal game with his sixth tally of the season 4:07 later and Philie added his fourth of the night to make it 8-5 with 10:46 remaining.

Holy Cross' Clay Haarmann knotted the score at 8-8 with 4:22 to go and he then scored the game-winner with 30 seconds left. Haarmann tallied three goals on the night, while James Kennedy had four goals and two assists.

Senior Alex Plavner earned the start in goal for the Catamounts, making seven saves, while his counterpart Kenny O'Connor had eight stops. Vermont finished the game 3-for 5 on extra man opportunities. With the four goals, Philie has now scored at least one point in 26 straight games and has eight goals in the last two meetings with the Crusaders.

Vermont returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Sacred Heart at Virtue Field starting at 1 p.m. There will be a Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Giveaway to the first 200 fans.
