Lafayette vs. Bucknell

The Game Story:
EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette dropped its fourth straight decision to a team ranked in the top 20 nationally, falling to No. 17 Bucknell, 14-2, on Saturday at Rappolt Field.

The Bison (5-2 overall, 3-0 Patriot League) led from the outset, jumping to a 5-0 first quarter lead. The margin was 11-0 before Lafayette freshman Jon Paulson scored with just 49 seconds left in the first half.

Nine different players accounted for Bucknell's 14 goals. Kirk Klett led the way with five tallies, while Chris Cara, the Patriot League's leading scorer, added a goal and four assists.

Bucknell scored on its first four shots to take a 4-0 lead just 6:34 into the contest. Klett scored three times before intermission, while Patrick Christensen netted a pair of goals in the second quarter.

Paulson got Lafayette (0-7, 0-3) on the board with an unassisted goal late in the second quarter, then scored a man-up goal off a Bart Seifert assist 1:56 into the third quarter.

The Bison controlled the pace of play most of the contest, out-shooting Lafayette 47-19 and converting 19-of-20 clear opportunities.

Matt Baran played into the third quarter in goal, making five saves overall, to earn the win for the Bison. Three different Lafayette goalkeepers combined to make 14 saves.

The Leopards are on the road for a pair of games next week, visiting Wagner on Tuesday and St. John's on Saturday.
