| EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Holy Cross jumped to an 8-1 third quarter lead, then withstood a Lafayette comeback attempt in the final 20:00 for an 11-5 Patriot League men's lacrosse win on Saturday. Mike Scolaro's goal with 4:49 left in the third quarter was the first of four for Lafayette in a span of just 6:44. Holy Cross, however, scored with just 19 seconds left in the third, then tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the fourth to squelch the rally. The Leopards dented the scoreboard first, as Leo Stinson recorded his second goal of the year with 5:22 left in the first quarter. Holy Cross then reeled off eight in a row before Scolaro's tally midway through the third. Five different players scored twice for Holy Cross (3-8 overall, 1-2 Patriot League). Paul LeBlanc added two assists to his two first-half goals for a game-high four points. Lafayette (1-9, 0-4) out-shot the Crusaders 32-27, including 21-11 in the second half. The Leopards' 32 shots are the second-most in a game this season. Matt Fallon recorded 14 saves to earn the win in goal for Holy Cross. Chris Rosa stopped seven shots to lead the Leopards' defensive effort. Lafayette returns to Rappolt Field on Tuesday, hosting Marist at 3 p.m. |
