| EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - No. 15 ranked Penn
outscored the Lafayette men's lacrosse team 8-2 in the second
half to post a 15-7 victory on Tuesday at Rappolt Field.
Four different players scored goals in the first quarter to give
Penn a 4-1 lead after the first 15 minutes. Mike Iannacone
scored 1:08 into the first quarter for the first goal of the game
and Penn never trailed.
Senior David Crean got hot for the Leopards in the second quarter after scoring their lone goal in the first. Crean netted goals at 7:27, 5:53 and 4:11. Junior Mike Fiorillo followed Crean's four consecutive goals with a spectacular unassisted effort with 2:28 left in the half that brought Lafayette within two, 7-5, at the half. At 8:48 in the third quarter, Scott Solow scored the first of his three goals for Penn. Jake Martin followed with a tally 38 seconds later that gave Penn an 8-5 lead and the momentum. Lafayette answered with goals by sophomores Drew Weisman and D.J. Krueger to again slice the Penn lead to two goals, 9-7. Penn rallied to score six unanswered goals in the final five minutes of the third quarter and the entire fourth quarter to record the 15-7 win. Lafayette goalkeeper Mike Neary made 10 saves in goal. Penn keeper Ryan Kelly stopped seven shots. Offensively, the Leopards were led by Crean's four goals. Iannacone, Martin and Scott Solow each recorded three goals on the day for Penn. |
