Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back, rolling to a 13-5 win
over visiting Marist at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks (1-0) were
led by four goals from senior Tony Lowe in the win, while Paul Donohue scored three
consecutive goals to pace the Red Foxes (0-1). Freshman Greg Morin scored off a pass from Grant Wasch less than two minutes into the contest to give Lehigh a 1-0 lead. Morin would add another first half goal, and Wasch a second assist, as the Mountain Hawks built a 5-1 lead at the half. Lehigh came out gunning in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals and firing off 16 shots in the quarter. In fact, the Mountain Hawks built a 12-1 lead with 11:32 left in the fourth quarter as Andrew Lucas found Lowe for his second goal of the afternoon. Marist responded, with three straight scores from Donahue to make the score 12-4. Lowe added his fourth goal of the afternoon for Lehigh, and a goal from Marist?s Josh Ben-Eliyahu closed out the scoring. On the afternoon, the Mountain Hawks out-shot the Red Foxes 39-23, and recorded 49 ground balls to Marist?s 23. "We?re a young team, so it?s tough to know what to expect this early on," said Lehigh first year head coach Chris Wakely, following the win. "We scored more than we thought we would, which is good, but we?ve still got a long way to go." The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday, March 2, when they visit Towson. Lehigh?s showdown with the Tigers is slated to begin at 1:00. |
