Marist vs. Lafayette

The Game Story:
Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's lacrosse team won its third straight game, rallying to earn a 9-5 victory over Lafayette College in a non-conference game played in the rain on Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes improve to 6-4 on the year, while the Leopards drop to 1-11.

Trailing 4-2 after a sluggish first half, the Red Foxes scored the only five goals of the third quarter and the first seven of the second half, to rally past the Leopards. Ryan Blaney got the second-half off to the right start for the Red Foxes, winning the team's first face-off of the game, and Josh Ben-Eliyahu netted a pass from Billy Duerr with 12:25 to play in the quarter to close to 4-3. The Red Foxes tied the game 3:59 layer on a goal by Sean Sweeney, again with an assist from Duerr.

The Red Foxes would tally three goals in the final 2:26 of the third quarter, stated with a goal by Andrew Walsh. Sweeney added a goal with 64 seconds to play in the quarter, and Tim Iuculano ended the 5-0 quarter with a goal tallied with 21 ticks to play. Duerr would make the score 8-4 with a 10:56 to play and Ben-Eliyahu wrapped up the Marist run with his second goal, with 2:49 to play. Lafayette netted its only goal of the second half, with :44 seconds to play, off of back-up goalkeeper Shane Brennan.

Steve Gravino earned the win for the Red Foxes, making eight saves, five in the third quarter, while allowing four goals in 57:59 of play. Brennan had a save and allowed a goal in his 2:01 of action. Lafayette's Michael Koch had six saves in the loss, playing the entire 60:00.

Brian Diele, Sweeny and Ben-Eliyahu all tallied a pair of goals each in the win, while Iuculano, Duerr, and Walsh all added one apiece. Keith Detelj had three assists for the Red Foxes, while Duerr added two and Mark Parquette and Sweeney each had an assist in the contest.

Robert McLean got the Leopards off to a quick start, tallying both of his goals in the first quarter. Matt Lukof joined him as a multi-goal scorer for Lafayette. Andrew Forbes also added a goal for the visitor.

Marist returns to action on Saturday, April 17th, when it travels to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League foe Virginia Military Institute for a 1:00pm game. The Red Foxes will enter that game at 4-0 in league play and in first place in the conference.
