|Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Lafayette College
10-7 earlier today on Leonidoff Field
The Red Foxes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first quarter behind goals from senior Paul Donohue (Fair Lawn, NJ) at 8:48 and sophomore Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY), who was assisted by freshman Dan Kushner (Southington, CT) at 5:28.
The second quarter belonged to the Leopards, as they outscored Marist 4-0 to take a 4-2 lead into the intermission. Lafayette extended the lead to 5-2 with a goal at 12:29 in the third, just before sophomore Josh Ben-Eliyahu (East Setauket, NY) scored off an assist from Diele to make it 5-3. The Leopards the scored three unanswered goals, two by D. J. Krueger, to close out the quarter and move ahead 8-3 after three quarters of action.
Sophomore Jay Nahama (Hampton, NJ) started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a goal at 13:48 to cut the margin to 8-4. Two straight goals by Lafayette made the score 10-4, before Deile scored on an assist by sophomore Scott Sweeny (Farmingdale, NY) at 3:48 and Nahama (1:39) and Kushner (0:04) added late goals off assists by Donohue for the final margin.
Diele (2G, 1A) and Donohue (1G, 2A) were the top scores for the Red Foxes, while Matt Prevost (1G, 3A) led eight different Lafayette players who scored.
Marist was outshot 48-22, but was able to stay close behind a 23 save effort from junior goalie Ben Gildea (Shoreman, NY). Kevin Devito totaled four saves for the Leopards. The Red Foxes did hold a 46-32 advantage in groundballs
The Red Foxes will end their season on Saturday, April 27th with a MAAC Lacrosse League game at Wagner starting at 1:00 PM.
