Marist vs. Lehigh

The Game Story:
West Point, N.Y. - The Marist men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-11 setback to Lehigh in its season opener today at Army's Shea Stadium. Junior midfielder Bill Duerr scored four goals and an assist for the Red Foxes. Classmate Tim Iuculano chipped in three goals and an assist.

Lehigh jumped ahead early as attackman Andrew Lucas scored three times in the first 1:16 to put the Mountain Hawks ahead to stay. Freshman attackman Pat Van Hall scored his first career goal with 9:03 left in the first quarter for Marist's first score of the season. Duerr had the assist. The Red Foxes would make it 3-2 less than two minutes later as Iuculano, a midfielder, put an unassisted shot past Lehigh goalie Eric Spirko.

The Red Foxes trailed 11-5 at halftime but played Lehigh to a 6-6 draw in the final two quarters. Duerr scored three of his four goals after halftime.

Sophomore midfielder Keith Detelj scored twice and had an assist for the Red Foxes. Junior goalie Stephen Gravino made 13 saves.

Lucas tallied six goals for Lehigh while attackman Greg Morin had four goals and an assist. Midfielder Blake Best also had a strong outing for the Mountain Hawks, putting up three goals and two assists. Spirko made eight saves in net.

The Red Foxes are back in action Tuesday, March 1 at Bucknell. Game time is 3 p.m.
