Marist vs. Ohio State

The Game Story:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Eleven Buckeyes scored at least one point, led by three points from Ben Wolff and two goals from Tom Randisi, to help the No. 19 Ohio State men's lacrosse team defeat Marist, 11-3, Monday at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, N.Y. The win, Ohio State's third in a row, moves the Buckeyes' record on the year to 4-2. The Red Foxes fall to 2-2.

Ohio State scored six goals in the first quarter and outscored Marist 2-1 in the second to go into halftime with an 8-1 lead. Chris Brown (So., Dublin, Ohio) opened the scoring at 11:13 before Ryan Laffey (Sr., Huntington, N.Y.) and Andrew Bender (So., Wooster, Ohio), assisted by Jason Lutz, scored less than a minute apart at 9:32 and 8:39. Kyle Olson (Jr., Upper Arlington, Ohio) made the score 4-0 with a goal set up by Laffey at 5:28, followed by a Lutz goal at 1:48 and a Randisi (Jr., Towson, Md.) tally 46 seconds later.

Randisi scored his second goal of the game with 9:22 remaining in the second quarter. Pat Van Horne got the Red Foxes on the board with a goal at 8:32 before Craig Nolan (So., Plano, Texas) ended the scoring in the half with a goal at 6:12.

In the third, Wolff scored his team-best 10th goal of the season just 19 seconds in, assisted by Nick Williams (So., Worthington, Ohio). Anthony Gilardi (Sr., Baldwin, N.Y.), with an assist from Wolff, tallied at 9:05. Gary Bining scored a man-up goal, set up by Gilardi and Olson, at 5:51 for the Buckeyes' last goal of the game. The Red Foxes scored with six seconds remaining in the third and with 1:58 remaining in the game for the 11-3 final.

In net, Tony Russo (Sr., Calvert Hall, Md.) played 45 minutes, making six saves. Drew May (Fr., St. Louis, Mo.) saw 1:01 of action in net, while senior Jon Miller (Corning, N.Y.) made three saves in 13:59.

Ohio State returns to action Thursday when it faces Hartford (0-6) at 3 p.m. at Al-Marzook Field in Hartford, Conn.

Game Notes

With six points in his last two games, Gilardi took over the team scoring lead with 14 points, including a team-best eight assists. He recorded his 100th point in the victory over Quinnipiac and now as 104 points in his career to rank 20th in Ohio State history.

Wolff and Gilardi are the only Buckeyes with at least one point in every game this season. Wolff had his second three-point game in the win over Marist.

Bining's goal was his first of the season and of his career. Nick Williams' assist was the first of his Buckeye career.

After being held scoreless in the season opener, Olson has points in the last five games, with two or more in all but one contest.

Randisi had his second two-goal game in a row, while Laffey had his second consecutive two-point outing.

Ohio State improved to 2-0 all-time against Marist. The teams first met in 2001, a 19-6 Buckeye win.
