|Sacred Heart Defeats Men's Lacrosse, 17-6|
Tim Iuculano led the Red Foxes with three goals and an assist.
Fairfield, CT - The Marist College men's lacrosse team fell to the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 17-6, on Wednesday in a non-conference game. The Red Foxes fall to 0-6 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 4-2.
Sacred Heart took an early 1-0 lead when Stephan Grabow took a pass from Christian Lynch, and scored on a power play at the 13:11 mark in the first quarter. Marist answered with a goal by Tim Iuculano (Silver Spring, MD) at 11:44 in the first to tie the game. Pat Scully (Longmeadow, MA) provided the assist on the play. That was as close as the Red Foxes would get, as Sacred Heart would score nine of the next ten goals in the contest to take a 10-2 lead.
Iuculano added another goal with 9:55 left in the second, before Ben Giamichael found the back of the net with three seconds left in the first half to make it 11-3 at the break.
The Pioneers scored two quick goals in the third quarter, both by TJ Hutmacher to increase the lead to 13-3. Andrew Walsh (Liverpool, NY) would then score on a power play with 7:58 left in the third, before Sacred Heart scored four unanswered goals to make it 17-4. Billy Duerr (Manasquan, NJ) and Iuculano tallied the final two goals of the game for the Red Foxes.
Iuculano led Marist with three goals and an assist, while Walsh, Duerr, and Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY) each scored a goal. Dan Kushner (Southington, CT) tallied an assist as well.
Bobby Gross (Huntington, NY) played the first 20 minutes of the game in goal, making three saves, before Steve Graviano (Oceanside, NY) finished the game with nine saves in 40 minutes of action.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, March 22nd, when they travel to Buffalo, NY to take on MAAC opponent Canisius at 2:00 p.m.
