The Game Story:
A late rally by the Marist men's lacrosse team (6-9, 3-3 MAAC) fell short as the Red Foxes were topped by Siena in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, 11-7. Junior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) led Marist with three goals. Junior goalkeeper Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a standout performance in the net for Marist, notching 15 saves. Senior Gannon Osborn (Canandaigua, N.Y.), junior Mike Begley (Brookville, Md.) and sophomores Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Dillon Walker (Wawa, Pa.) added one goal apiece. Freshmen Connor O'Neill (Sayville, N.Y.) and J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) contributed one assist each. Osborn collected a game-high seven ground balls while freshman Frankie Brier (Smithtown, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with three caused turnovers. Siena jumped ahead to an early 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals by Richie Hurley and Jordan Barlow. After almost a full quarter of no goals, Marist's Begley ran from half field and converted on an unassisted shot to post a 2-1 score at the end of the first quarter. The Saints scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter to have a 5-1 advantage at the half. The Red Foxes came out of the locker room strong as Radin and Walker scored one goal each to cut Marist's deficit 6-3. Joka netted the first of this three off a pass from O'Neill at the 2:55 mark to pull within three of the Saints. Barlow struck again one minute later to double the Red Foxes, 8-4. Joka closed out the third quarter with another, assisted by Recor, to trail the Saints 8-5 heading into the third quarter. Hurley and Nate Barry hit in one apiece to open the fourth quarter to increase Siena's lead 10-5 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Osborn scored an unassisted as he wrapped around the net to pull his Red Foxes within four with 5:43 to go. Clive scored off Curry's fourth assist of the game at the 4:07 mark to make it 11-6 Saints with time running out. Joka completed his hat trick at the 2:58 mark but Siena held Marist scoreless for the final three minutes to win the 2014 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship title.
