The Game Story:
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Led by nine goals from attackmen Ryan Sharkey (West Field, N.J.) and Evan Guarini (Long Valley, N.J.), the Marist men's lacrosse team moved to 4-0 in the MAAC Lacrosse League with a 14-7 win over VMI at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on Saturday afternoon. Sharkey had five goals and an assists as Guarini found the back of the net four times. Corey Zindel (Randolph, N.J.) led Marist with six assists.

VMI (1-9, 0-4 MAAC) got on the board first as Colin Bosse fed Tim Moran in front of the Marist net to put the Keydets ahead 1-0. Marist outshot VMI 8-4 in the first quarter and used a late barrage to take the lead. The Red Foxes tallied their first goal with 4:12 to go in the first as Guarini put a Bob von Hoffman (Montclair, N.J.) pass into the net. Junior Matt Teichmann (Huntington, N.Y.) then scored a man-up goal with 1:14 to go in the quarter to put Marist ahead 2-1. Guarini added a highlight-reel goal as he took a feed from von Hoffman and leapt in the air to beat VMI goalie Alex Benedick to put Marist ahead 3-1 with 12 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Keydets got within one, 3-2, 2:58 into the second quarter as Bosse scored off a Brett Leonard assist. Just as in the first quarter, Marist answered VMI's goal with three straight goals. Sharkey put in back-to-back goals at the 10:12 mark and the 3:51 mark of the second quarter to give the Red Foxes a 5-2 lead. Guarini then scored his third goal of the game with 54 seconds remaining in the half, putting in a pass from Sharkey to give Marist a 6-2 halftime lead.

Marist (4-4, 4-0 MAAC) got on the board 46 seconds into the third quarter as Teichmann scored from right of the cage to make the score 7-2. Sharkey then scored his third goal of the game at the 13:50 mark of the third off of a Zindel pass to put the Red Foxes ahead 8-2. After a Jacob Weimer goal got VMI within five, senior Keegan Blaney (Stony Brook, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season to make the score 9-3. The Keydets then got goals from Weimer and Matt Piazza to get within four, 9-5, with 6:54 to go in the third quarter. The Red Foxes then went on a run of three straight goals to go up by seven, 12-5, putting the game away. Guarini scored the first goal with 5:34 to go in the quarter as Zachary Walsh (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) scored the next two. Moran added one more goal for VMI before the end of the quarter to make the score 12-6.

The Red Foxes assisted on all 14 of their goals in Saturday's game. VMI outshot Marist 29-27, but Marist held a 27-26 advantage in ground balls. Junior midfield Matt Francis (Lansdale, Pa.) helped Marist control play by winning 15 of 24 faceoffs. Francis also led the Red Foxes with six ground balls as Blaney and Nick Armstrong (Kings Park, N.Y.) each had four. Senior goalie Ryan Penner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had eight saves in the win.

Marist now goes on the road for three straight games, beginning on Saturday, April 11 at Holy Cross. Opening face-off is at 1 p.m.
