The Game Story:
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Twelve different players finished with points as the Marist men's lacrosse team earned a 15-9 win over VMI in its season finale, as the Red Foxes concluded the 2007 campaign with a 6-9 record and a 5-3 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Lacrosse League play. Marist was knocked out of contention for next weekend's MAAC Tournament by virtue of Providence's victory over Siena.

Prior to the contest, Marist honored its six seniors: Collin Blake (Fulton, N.Y.), Keith Detelj (Sayville, N.Y.), Matt Donovan (St. James, N.Y.), Bill Kolar (West Islip, N.Y.), Mike McGuire (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Jim Wiederhold (Bridgewater, N.J.). Kolar spearheaded a strong Marist defensive effort with a game-high six ground balls. Detelj had three assists, three ground balls and six shots. McGuire, a two-year captain, had his first three-point game of the season with two goals and an assist. Donovan registered his first two-goal game of the year.

Junior attackman Pat VanHall (Fairport, N.Y.) had a game-high six points, finishing with four goals and two assists. Junior midfielder Pete O'Hara (Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman attackman Matt Teichmann (Huntington, N.Y.) each finished with two goals and an assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Penner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made eight saves, and scored his second goal of the season in the third period, when he charged all the way up the field untouched and fired a shot that landed in the back of the net.

With 5:29 left in the first quarter, Teichmann's goal off a pass from VanHall gave the Red Foxes a 4-3 lead, and they did not relinquish the advantage the remainder of the contest. Starting with that goal, Marist scored six consecutive times, and took a 10-4 lead into halftime. Marist led by as much as 11 at 15-4 in the fourth quarter before VMI scored the last five goals of the contest in the final 4:23.

The Red Foxes held the Keydets to just one goal in a span of nearly 47:16 between the first quarter and the fourth quarter, and outshot VMI by a 43-29 margin. Marist's 15-goal output was its highest of the season.

Kevin Hill and Steve Long led VMI (2-12 overall, 1-7 MAAC) with three goals apiece. Hayden Cox scored twice, and Steve Lindley finished with two assists. Matt Harrison scored a goal, and Curtis Jaques and David Jacobs each registered an assist. Jaques led the Keydets with four ground balls, and McCoy stopped six Marist shots.
