Maryland vs. Saint Joseph's

The Game Story:
College Park, Md. - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell to seventh ranked Maryland, 11-4, on Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Terrapins move to an overall record of 6-1 while their only loss of the season came from a 9-8 overtime loss to 19th ranked Duke.

Maryland got on the board eight minutes into the first quarter with a goal from Owen Blye and scored again eight seconds later when Blye set up teammate Brian Farrell for a goal. The Terrapins added another goal with 4:04 left to end the first quarter with a 3-0 lead.

Maryland tallied four more goals to make it 7-0, before Steve Dunn would give the Hawks their first goal of the game with 2:39 remaining in the first half for a 7-1 score at the break.

The Terrapins outshot the Hawks 22-10 in the first half, while goalkeeper Chris Moffa made 10 saves between the pipes.

The Hawks traded goals with Maryland in the third quarter, with the Terps scoring first at the 11:02 mark. Scott Cullinan answered with a goal less than a minute later, but Maryland added another score with 6:19 to go. Kyle Williams responded with a goal 1:12 later to make it 9-3 at the end of the third.

Saint Joseph's Johnny Simanski got the Hawks the closest they'd get all game with a goal just 45 seconds into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately SJU couldn't muster anymore offense while the Terrapins added two goals in the remaining minutes.

Overall Maryland outshot the Hawks 37-18, and had caused 15 of the Hawks 21 turnovers in the game and picked up 35 ground balls to Saint Joseph's 14. Blye led the Terrapins with three goals and two assists. Moffa totaled 12 saves in net for the Hawks.




Saint Joseph's returns to action on Saturday when it travels to State College to face Penn State at 1:00 p.m.
