UMass jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first six minutes of play, on three goals from Paccione and a score by senior attackman Marc Morley (Canton, N.Y.). The Hawks then came back to score three of the next four goals, with senior midfielder Tyler Francey scoring at the 14:03 mark of the second quarter to cut the UMass lead to 5-3. But the Minutemen then went on an 8-0 scoring run, netting the last five goals of the second quarter and the first three of the third, to take a 13-3 lead with 5:39 left in the third period. UMass cruised to victory from that point, outscoring the Hawks 6-2 for the remainder of the game.
