The Game Story:
The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team downed St. Joseph's, 8-2, in the championship game of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament to earn the school's first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Mount dominated the first half, leading 7-0 at the break. It's the Mount's second MAAC Tournament title over the past three years.

Sophomore Billy Jautze put the Mount ahead, 1-0, 3:31 into the opening quarter. Ian Cassidy followed with his 20th goal of the year, and then freshman Matt Warner took over. Warner scored the next four goals of the game to give the Mount a 6-0 lead. Senior Josh Warfield's tally with 47 seconds left in the first half gave the Mount a 7-0 lead.

The Mount (10-7) dominated play in the opening 30 minutes, outshooting the Hawks, 33-11. St. Joseph's goalkeeper Travis McDonnell kept his team in the game, making 16 of his 21 saves in the half.

The Mount controlled the tempo in the second half to cruise to the win. St. Joseph's (6-9) scored its first goal with 3:04 left in the third quarter on a goal by Brian Mullan. Kevin McGrann cut the Mount's lead to 7-2 with 3:37 left in the game, but Warner completed the scorin with his fifth goal of the game and 11th of the tournament with 1:42 remaining.

Mount goalkeeper Dave Lambour made 13 saves in the game and was selected as the Tournament Most Valuable Player. Harry Mendez and Matt Prior were named to the all-tournament team on defense, Warfield and Ian Cassidy at midfield, and Warner at attack.

The Mount's opponent in the NCAA Tournament will be announced tonight, May 4, at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN News.
