The Game Story:
Emmitsburg, Md. (April 19, 2006)--Dave Orban scored four goals to lead Mount St. Mary's past VMI, 9-6, in men's lacrosse action at Alumni Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Mount (4-7, 4-1 MAAC) moves into a three-way tie for first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with Canisius and Marist.

Orban scored the game's first goal when he converted a Benjamin Mundorf pass with 1:32 left in the first quarter. Joseph Derwent scored one minute later to give the Mount a 2-0 edge after the first quarter.

Orban then recorded back-to-back extra-man goals to give the Mount a 4-0 advantage just 3:41 into the second quarter. Adam Sharretts recorded assists on each of Orban's goals.

The Keydets (2-8, 1-5 MAAC) got back into the game on goals by David Trimble and Steve Long. Derwent's closed out the scoring in the first half when he picked up a loose ball in front of the cage and buried the shot for his second score of the contest, giving the Mount a 5-2 lead at the half.

The Keydets came out strong to open the second half, cutting the deficit to 5-4 when Robert Trimble scored a pair of goals in the opening 3:12 of the third quarter. The Mount's Matt Warner answered with a pair of goals of his own to give the Mount a 7-4 lead. The goals give Warner a team-high 22 on the season and 131 for his career, third on the Mount's all-time list.

The Mount pushed the advantage to 9-4 when Orban converted a feed from Mundorf and Jason Werner added his first goal of the game. The Keydets scored a pair of extra-man goals in the final 1:19 to round out the scoring. David Trimble and Kevin Hill provided the scores.

Orban finished with a career-best four goals in the contest, his second-straight four-point effort. Derwent added two goals and an assists for a career-best three points while Warner finished with two goals. Mundorf and Sharretts each had two assists in the victory.

Long had a goal and two assists to pace the Keydets while David and Robert Trimble each had two goals. Will Collier added a pair of assists for VMI in the loss.

Mount goalkeeper Joe Zolezzi made 16 saves while allowing six goals in the victory. Josh Blechman made 12 saves in the cage for VMI.

Mount St. Mary's held a 42-31 edge in shots and had a 38-32 advantage in ground balls. The Mount was 2-for-4 in extra man opportunities while VMI was 2-for-7.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday when Canisius visits Alumni Field in the final home game of the season. The Mount will be honoring its senior class prior to the game.
