|WEST POINT, N.Y. - No. 20 Ohio State turned back visiting Army, 11-8,
Saturday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The
Black Knights slip to 3-3 overall on the season after finishing up their recent
three-game road trip with one win.
Freshman attackman John Walker and junior midfielder Marko Kostovic each
scored twice, but it was not enough as the Buckeyes rolled behind Pat Myers'
three points and Anthony Gilardi's two goals. Army's Mike Kamon scored once
and picked up an assist, as did Jim Wagner. Chris Woods and John Ryan
scored for the Black Knights and Jeff Bryan registered two assists.
Despite dominating statistically, the Black Knights dropped their second
straight contest and stand at .500 on the season. Goalkeeper Matt Darak made
13 saves in the cage and Army scooped up 22 more ground balls than its
opponent, holding a 52-30 advantage, while also outshooting the Buckeyes
(39-37) and winning 15 of 23 faceoffs.
The Black Knights must regroup to face No. 15 Hofstra, a 9-8 winner over No.
11 Notre Dame on Saturday, this Wednesday night at Shea Stadium. Faceoff is
set for 7 p.m.
