Ohio State vs. Bucknell

The Game Story:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 19 Ohio State men's lacrosse team lost to No. 17 Bucknell, 7-6, Saturday at North Turf Field in Columbus. The Buckeyes entered the fourth quarter trailing by three (7-4), before sophomore Joel Dalgarno scored twice to cut the Bison lead to one (7-6). However, the team was unable to get the tying goal and suffered the non-conference loss. The Buckeyes fall to 3-2 this season, while Bucknell improves to 3-0.

"We had opportunities, but we didn't finish them," Joe Breschi, Ohio State head coach, said. "We executed the offense, but didn't finish. We were proud of the defensemen today."

The Buckeyes had a 2-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y./Hobart/West Genesee) found James Green (Fr., Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) for a goal just 21 seconds into the contest. Senior Jason Lutz (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) added a goal at 12:28, assisted by Buchanan (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall).

Bucknell then went on a three-goal run to end the quarter and outscored the Buckeyes 5-1 before halftime. Perry Menzies got the Bison on the board at 7:05, followed by Austin Winter's goal at 5:14 to tie the game at 2. Tim Brandau tallied with just 10 seconds left in the quarter to put Bucknell ahead by one (3-2).

Buckeye senior transfer Joe Benson (Baltimore, Md./Johns Hopkins/McDonogh) stopped the Bucknell run with a goal at 6:27 of the second quarter, tying the game at 3. Bucknell closed out the quarter with goals by Menzies at 5:04 and Brandau at 3:48 to regain the lead and take a 5-3 lead into halftime.





Joe Mele opened the scoring in the third quarter to extend Bucknell's lead to three (6-3). Ryan scored unassisted for the Buckeyes at 6:15 of the third, followed by Winter's second goal of the game for the Bison at 4:22. Bucknell led, 7-4, at the end of the third quarter.

Dalgarno (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia/Western Reserve (Ohio) scored twice in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to one. Buchanan set up Dalgarno's first goal at 14:23, followed by an unassisted score at 12:31. The Buckeyes had two extra-man opportunities in the quarter, but were unable to convert.

Eric O'Brien (Sr., Powell, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) won 12-of-17 faceoffs for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes held the Bison scoreless on six extra-man chances, including a two-minute stretch when they were down two men for the first minute.

Bucknell outshot the Buckeyes, 42-36, in the game. Buckeye goalie Stefan Schroder (Jr., Kirkville, N.Y./Onodaga C.C./East Syracuse Minoa) had nine saves and allowed all seven goals. Nick Sciubba had four saves and allowed six goals for the Bison.
