The Game Story:
COLUMBUS, OH -- Anthony Gilardi scored two of his team-high three goals in a 4-1 Ohio State flurry in the third quarter as the No. 20 ranked Buckeyes downed the University of Delaware 9-7 in a non-league men^s lacrosse game Saturday afternoon as Jessie Owens Stadium.

The Blue Hens, who got a team-high three goals from Matt Alrich and two goals and an assist from Ryan Metzbower, rallied in the fourth quarter but came up short in losing its second straight game, both to top 20 ranked teams.

Ohio State, which also got two goals from Pat Myers and two goals and three assists from Curt Smith, won its third straight game to improve to 4-2 on the season. The Buckeyes downed the Hens 15-7 last season in Newark.

Delaware sophomore goalkeeper Chris Collins kept the Blue Hens in the game, posting a career-high 19 saves. Scott Evans added a goal and two assists and Bob Meunier added the other UD goal. Ohio State used a 37-25 edge in shots and won 13 of 20 faceoffs to control the game.

Ohio State jumped out to a 2-1 lead but the Hens followed with consecutive goals by Alrich and two by Metzbower to take a 4-2 lead. But the Buckeyes answered with three goals to end the half and take a 5-4 lead into intermission.

After the Buckeyes upped the lead to 6-4 one minute into the second half, the Hens came back with a goal by Evans to cut the lead to 6-5 with 8:49 left in the third period. But Ohio State made its pivotal run, scoring three straight goals, including two by Gilardi and one by Smith, to take control at 9-5 with 3:49 left in the stanza.

Delaware shut Ohio State down the rest of the game and rallied to with two goals when Meunier scored with 11:14 left in the game and Alrich tallied just over one minute later to cut the lead to 9-7. Neither team connected the rest of the way.
