| COLUMBUS, Ohio - Led by a three-goal outburst from Mike Norton (Jr.,
Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall), the No. 17 Ohio State men's lacrosse team
defeated Drexel 8-4 Sunday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Norton also
added an assist as the Buckeyes won their third straight game.
Anthony Gilardi (So., Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) and Curtis Smith (Jr., Victoria, British Columbia/Oak Bay) scored two goals apiece for Ohio State (3-2), while Pat Donohue (Jr., West Babylon, N.Y./ West Babylon) tallied the other Buckeye goal. OSU, which has been solid in the first half throughout the season, continued the trend Sunday. The Buckeyes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, including back-to-back goals within 35 seconds of each other late in the period. The Buckeyes pushed their lead to 4-0 at the 5:46 mark of the second quarter on a Smith goal on the extra-man opportunity. After Drexel's Joe Fiore cut the lead to three, the Buckeyes came right back 15 seconds later on a goal by Norton. Drexel (2-3) opened the second-half scoring with a goal from Mark Williamson at the 10:24 mark, but Ohio State responded with three straight goals to push the lead to six in the fourth quarter. Tony Russo (So., Fallston, Md./Calvert Hall) was stellar in goal for the Buckeyes, saving 16 Drexel shots. Ohio State hits the road next Saturday at 1 p.m., traveling to West Point, N.Y., to take on Army. |
