The Game Story:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Buckeye sophomore Joel Dalgarno paced the Buckeye attack with a career-best five assists and eight points, leading the Ohio State men's lacrosse team to a 14-6 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The game was the Buckeyes' Great Western Lacrosse League opener, while the Bobcats now are 0-2 in conference play. Ohio State is 5-4 this year and the Bobcats drop to 3-4.

Dalgarno (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia/Western Reserve (Ohio) also had a team-best three goals in the game. Jeff Ryan (So., Syracuse, N.Y./Hobart/West Genesee), Jason Lutz (Sr., Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) and Kevin Buchanan (Jr., Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall) each added two goals, while Buchanan also had an assist for a three-point game.

The Buckeyes led, 4-1, at the end of the first quarter and 7-2 at halftime. Dalgarno opened the scoring with a man-up goal at 13:27. Ryan put the Buckeyes up by two at 9:34 before Jon D'Ascoli got the Bobcats on the board with a goal at 5:15, cutting the Buckeye lead to one (2-1). Ryan added his second goal of the game, assisted by Dalgarno, with 1:18 remaining in the first, as the Buckeyes then went on a five-goal run.

Ohio State's Mario Ventiquattro (Fr., Carthage, N.Y./Carthage Central) scored his first career goal at 13:49 of the second quarter, assisted by Dalgarno. Dalgarno then assisted on his third-consecutive goal when Josh Funk (Jr., Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) tallied just 38 seconds later (13:11). Dalgarno followed with a goal of his own, scoring on a man-up chance at 10:10. There was no scoring until Lutz tallied at 3:54, taking a breakout pass from goalie Stefan Schroder (Jr., Kirkville, N.Y./Onodaga C.C./East Syracuse Minoa) for his seventh goal of the season. The Buckeyes held the Bobcats scoreless for a 19:30 stretch before QU's Mike Stottler scored with 45 seconds remaining in the half.

The Buckeyes scored the first three goals of the second half, with Buchanan scoring the first two. He tallied unassisted at 11:27, followed by a man-up goal at 5:32, set up by Dalgarno. Jeff Buck (Sr., Burke, Va./Robinson) added his first goal of the season with 3:22 on the clock. Quinnipiac then scored back-to-back goals to make the score 10-4. Chris Griffin tallied with three seconds left in the third quarter and Tucker Prudden scored 35 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Ohio State outscored Quinnipiac, 4-2, the rest of the way for the 14-6 final. Buchanan found Lutz for a man-up score, the Buckeyes' fourth of the game, at 11:41 and Chris Li (Sr., Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) took a pass from Dalgarno to score his first career goal at 11:29. Doug Ruhnke (So., Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) found Peter Schell (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) for his first goal of the season at 5:54 and Dalgarno scored the Buckeyes' last goal of the game unassisted with 3:16 remaining. QU's Gary Messina tallied for the Bobcats at 9:27 and 4:59 of the fourth quarter.

The Buckeyes outshot the Bobcats, 42-16, marking a season high for shots in a game. Schroder made three saves in all 60 minutes for the Buckeyes. Quinnipiac's Roger Fish had 14 saves in 60 minutes in the cage.

Senior Eric O'Brien (Powell, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) won 17-of-21 faceoffs for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes converted 4-of-5 man-up chances. Quinnipiac was 0-for-2, as the Buckeyes held the Bobcats scoreless during a three-minute man-up chance.

Game Notes
The Buckeyes will hit the road for three-consecutive GWLL games, beginning with a contest at Bellarmine at 1 p.m. April 7 in Louisville, Ky. The squad then will travel to Colorado, taking on Air Force at 4 p.m. April 20 in USAFA, Colo., and Denver at 1:30 p.m. April 22 in Denver, Colo.

Dalgarno is on a 22-game point streak (45-31-76) that began in the first game of last season (his first game as a Buckeye), with multiple points in the last 21. His eight points in the game vs. Quinnipiac were a career best, besting his previous high of five, set three times before, including at Towson March 20. His previous high for assists in a game was four, set against Robert Morris last season. Dalgarno has at least one goal in each game this year and leads the team with 21 goals. He also is first on the team with 35 points.

Buchanan is on a 24-game point streak that began with two games remaining in the 2005 season (May 1, 2005 vs. Fairfield). He has 40-34-74 totals during the stretch. He leads the Buckeyes with a career-high 19 assists this season and is second with 31 points. He has two goals in each of his last four games.

Ryan is on a nine-game point streak that began in the season opener. He is second on the team with 19 goals and third with 24 points. He has multiple goals in six games this season, including the last three.

Lutz is on a five-game point streak (8-2-10) and has two goals in each of the last two games.

Li's goal was the first of his career and came in his 44th game for the Scarlet and Gray. Ventiquattro's goal was his first and came in his second game for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes are 6-0 all-time vs. Quinnipiac, including 2-0 in Columbus. The Bobcats joined the GWLL last season.

Ohio State has won its last five GWLL openers and is 5-8 all-time in the first game of league play.

O'Brien has won 61.6 percent of his faceoffs this season to lead the squad. He is first on the team with 49 groundballs, including eight vs. Quinnipiac.
