|STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - April 20, 2002 - The Lions earned their first
ECAC victory of the season as they defeated the Scarlet Knights of
Rutgers 15-3. Penn State improves to (6-5, 1-4) while Rutgers falls
to (2-10, 0-3).|
Penn State scored two goals in the fourth quarter coming from
senior captain Will Driscoll (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) for his fifth
of the day and junior Bill Farrell (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford).
Junior attackman Luke Ogelsby (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford School)
finished the day with four goals and four assists for the Nittany
Lions. Rutgers scored one goal in the period coming from Michael
Buck. The Lions held Rutgers scoreless on their four EMO attempts of
the period and gave up 11 shots in the final 15 minutes.
The Lions controlled the third period outscoring Rutgers 4-1.
Ogelsby had one goal and two assists in the period while senior
captain Tim Emmick (Corning, N.Y./Corning) notched his only goal of
the day at 13:10 in the quarter. Jamie Lovejoy scored the only goal
for the Scarlet Knights in the period on an assist from Ken Springer.
Luke Ogelsby scored a goal and dished out an assist in the
second quarter as Driscoll and sophomore Edmond Perry (Port
Washington, N.Y./Port Washington) each scored goals for the Lions.
Michael Coomber scored for Rutgers in the period on an unassisted
goal at 10:58.
Penn State didn't hesitate in getting off to a good start.
The Lions scored six goals while the Nittany Lion defense held
Rutgers scoreless. Driscoll had two goals and one assist in the
period, while Ogelsby tallied two goals for the Lion cause. Penn
State out shot the Scarlet Knights 11-6 in the period and won five of
six face-offs in the quarter.
All three goaltenders saw time for the Lions in the match. Junior
Chris Garrity (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) played the majority of the
match making 13 saves. Josh LaGrow (Skaneateles, N.Y./Christian
Brothers Academy) and Mike Stoltz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) played the
last four minutes but did not see any shots.
