|PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Hartford, 7-4, in non-conference action on Tuesday, March 16 in Providence, R.I. The Friar trailed 4-1 midway through the third quarter, but scored the final six goals of the game to earn their second-straight win.
Sean Kirwan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and Kevin Kornobis (Merrick, N.Y.) led Providence with two goals each. Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.) added three assists and one goal for a team-high four points. Hartford was led by Garett Kokot, who netted a team-high two goals, and Mike Gillis who recorded one goal and one assist.
In the decisive second half, Kirwan scored his first goal of the game at the 4:21 mark of the third quarter to make the score, 4-2, in favor of Hartford. Kornobis followed with two-straight goals off assist from Ryan at the 2:05 mark and with 51-seconds remaining to tie the game, 4-4. Freshman Mark Bundra (Winnetka, Ill.) scored what proved to be the game-winner with 13:21 on the clock in the fourth quarter, unassisted. Mark Seyer (Kirkwood, Mo.) and Kirwan added insurance goals with 7:58 and 2:23 remaining in the game, respectively. Ryan was credited with the assist on Seyer's goal, while Dan Giuntini (Floral Park, N.Y.) earned the assist on Kirwan's team-leading seventh goal of the year.
Junior Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded five saves in between the pipes for PC and notched his second victory of the season. Jordan Karem made 14 saves in the losing effort for Hartford, who falls to 0-5 on the year.
Providence (2-3, 1-0 MAAC) will return to the field on Saturday, March 20 against Marist College in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action. The game will be played at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. at 2:00 p.m.
