The Game Story:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team led by just one goal (5-4) after three quarters, but outscored VMI, 7-2, in the fourth and final quarter to take a 12-5 victory on Saturday, March 22 in Providence, R.I. The Friars improve to 2-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while VMI drops to 1-1 in the league. Graduate student Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) and sophomore Colin Tigh (Garden City, N.Y.) each recorded a game-high four points on three goals and one assist. Kevin Hill led the Keydets with three points on one goal and two assists.

The Friars scored the only goal of the first quarter to take a 1-0 lead at the 9:04 mark as senior Devin McBride (Marblehead, Mass.) found the back of the net, unassisted. VMI evened the score (1-1) with an unassisted goal from Bobby Davis at the 10:09 mark of the second quarter. The Friars responded 55-second later to regain the lead as junior Bobby Labadini (Westford, Mass.) scored off of a feed from Murphy.

Providence took a 3-1 lead just 49 seconds into the third quarter as Tigh notched his first goal of the afternoon off a pass from graduate student Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.). The Keydets answered with back-to-back goals from Kevin Hill and Matt Piazza at 12:23 and 7:30 to tie the game, 3-3. The Friars regained their two-goal lead with back-to-back goals of their own at 5:39 and 3:33 to take a 5-3 advantage in the third. Sophomore Jackson Fallon (Arlington, Mass.) struck first off an assist from Dillon. Labadini netted his second goal of the day from graduate student Henry Pynchon (Ipswich, Mass.).

VMI started the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal from Tim Moran at the 13:00 minute mark to make the score 5-4. At that point, the Friars went on to score seven-straight goals to take a commanding, 12-4, lead. Tigh got things started at 11:29, unassisted. Murphy netted his first of the day off a feed from McBride at 9:51 for a 7-4 lead. Tigh tallied his third goal of the afternoon, unassisted, with 6:48 on the clock, and then added an assist on Murphy's second goal at the 5:04 mark. Defenseman Ryan Riedl (Winchester, Mass.) added a goal with 3:55 remaining as he took the ball the length of the field on a clear to give PC a 10-4 lead. Murphy and McBride scored PC's final two goals, unassisted, at 3:01 and 2:20, respectively. VMI's Brett Leonard stopped the bleeding with 1:07 left on the clock to make the final score, 12-5. Leonard's goal was assisted by Kevin Hill.

The Friars dominated the face-off "X" for the second-straight MAAC game, winning 14-of-21 opportunities. Graduate student Thomas Wenskus (East Islip, N.Y.) led the way with 10 victories in 14 chances. Junior Joe Watkins (Ocala, Fla.) won four-of-six face-off opportunities.

Junior Robert Bryan (Apex, N.C.) earned the victory between the pipes for Providence with 10 saves in 58:16 minutes of action. Sean McCoy took the loss for VMI and made four saves.

Providence College will return to action on Saturday, March 29 against MAAC opponent Siena in Loundonville, N.Y. Opening face-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
