Providence vs. Wagner

The Game Story:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Wagner, 16-3, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on March 25 at the Friar Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. The Friars improve to 2-2 overall with the victory and remain unbeaten in MAAC play at 2-0. Wagner drops to 0-7 on the season (0-1 MAAC).

Senior Tom Kelly (Henniker, N.H.) scored a game-high four goals to lead the Friar offense. Senior Mark Seyer (Kirkwood, Mo.) netted three goals, picked up five groundballs and won 13-of-14 face-off opportunities. Junior Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.) scored two goals and added two assists on the day. He now owns a team-high eight assists for the season and 42 in his career. His 42 handouts moves him into 15th all-time among the Friars' career leaders in assists.

Also scoring two goals for the Friars was graduate student Jonathan Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.). Five other Friars scored one goal in the game, including senior Michael Farley (Westfield, N.J.), who also tallied a game-high three assists.

Mike Coleman, Jeff Policicchio and Taylor Poschmann each netted one goal for Wagner. Chris Sochacki played all 60 minutes in goal for the Seahawks and made 19 saves. He faced 53 Friar shot attempts. Thirty-five of the 53 shots were on goal.


Junior Peter Littell (Upper Montclair, N.J.) earned the victory for Providence between the pipes with eight saves.

Providence outshot Wagner, 53-22, and held a 50-22 advantage in groundballs. The Friars also were able to score four man-up goals in the game, finishing four-of-seven on the day. Wagner was 0-3 in man-advantage scoring.

Providence (2-2, 2-0 MAAC) will return to action on Saturday, April 1 against Canisius. The game will be played in Buffalo, N.Y. and will begin at 11:00 a.m. The Friars return home on Wednesday, April 5 against Fairfield at 7:00 p.m.
